There are some exciting holidays this week while we enjoy our well deserved vacation and I don't want to forget to mention them! Yesterday, 12/28, was "El Día de los Santos Inocentes" - Day of the Holy Innocents. In Spain, this is similar to our April Fool's Day, in which children and adults alike play pranks on each other. Parents... consider yourselves lucky that I forgot to mention this to the students before break; otherwise you might have gotten some unexpected surprises yesterday! Throughout the world El año nuevo - the new year - is coming up. In Spain, the tradition is to eat doce uvas - 12 grapes - on the 12 strokes of midnight. It is a superstition that eating the grapes will lead to a year of prosperity, while not doing so will lead to a very disappointing year!
I forgot to mention BOTH of these fun traditions to students before vacation so, parents, share these fun facts with your kids! Here's to a prosperous new year!
